A short list. If a message asks for any of these, it didn't come from Barber-Scotia.
Your password
Not by email, not by phone, not by text, not in person. Not to verify your account, not to fix a problem, not for any reason at all. IT staff never need it, because we can reset your account without ever knowing what your password is.
A security code you received
If you get a code by text or email, it's for you to enter yourself. Nobody from the College will ever ask you to read one back to them.
Payment in gift cards, wire transfer, or cryptocurrency
Barber-Scotia does not accept any of these, for tuition, fees, fines, or anything else. A request for payment this way is a scam every single time, including one that appears to come from a professor or an administrator.
Your bank details or card number by email
Payments and refunds go through Populi or the Business Office. No one at the College will ask you to send account numbers in a message.
Remote access to your device
If someone contacts you out of the blue and asks to connect to your computer or phone, say no. If you called us and we're working on your problem together, that's different, and we'll explain what we're doing before we do it.
If you've already given something away
Tell us. You're not in trouble, and the sooner we know, the less there is to fix. See Your account may be compromised or email helpdesk@b-sc.edu from any address you can reach.
