If you entered your password somewhere you shouldn't have, or something about your account seems off, here's what to do.
Change your password now
Go to https://b-sc.edu:2096/resetpass and set a new one. Do this first, before anything else on this page.
If you used the same password anywhere else, change it there too. Someone with one working password will try it everywhere.
Tell us
Email helpdesk@b-sc.edu from any address you can reach, including a personal one. Tell us what happened and roughly when.
This can happen to anyone, and the faster we know, the less there is to undo.
Check for forwarding rules
When someone gets into an email account, a common next step is to set up automatic forwarding so they keep receiving your mail after you change your password. This is the part people miss or overlook.
Sign in at https://b-sc.edu:2096 and look at the settings for filters, rules, and forwarding. If anything is there that you didn't set up, delete it and tell us what it said.
Look at your Sent folder
Check whether messages went out that you didn't write. If they did, tell us who received them, and let those people know directly so they don't act on anything sent in your name.
Signs worth paying attention to
- Messages in your Sent folder that you didn't write
- Your password stops working and you didn't change it
- People replying to mail you never sent
- Messages disappearing from your inbox
- A password reset notice you didn't request
- Anything in Populi that changed without you doing it
If money was involved
If you sent money, deposited a check, or gave out bank or card details, contact your bank right away. Then tell us, so we can check whether the same scam is reaching other students.
